FIGHTING IN MOROCCO
SPANIARDS WITHDRAWN. ATTACKED BY NATIVES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT (Received Dec. 15, 11.45 a.m.) MADRID, Dec. 14. The difficulties of the Spanish withdrawal from Morocco is illustrated by the experiences of one column, which masses of the enemy harassed throughout, despite the fire of Spanish artillery and airmen. The rearguard consisted of armoured ears, two of which were upset in the deplorable roads. An aeroplane barrage prevented the enemy capturing the cars. Reinforcements were rushed up and relieved the column. (Received Dec. 15, 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, Dec. 14. The Petit Parisian’s Madrid correspondent understands that France has requested the Spanish Government to explain its intentions with regard to part of Spanish Morocco which Spanish troops are evacuating. [Morocco, in which Britain,, Spain and France have substantial interests, lias been the centre of considerable trouble for many years, and on more than one occasion has nearly been the cause of international complications. It has a population of 5,000,000, and is situated in the northwest corner of Africa, its northern coast being Avashed by the Mediterranean and the west by the Atlantic.]
