NORMANBY.

(From Our Owii Correspondent-.) MAIN ROADS. .At ; a special meeting of the j?ormahby Town Board it was decided to call the ratepayers together and discuss matters iii connection with raising a, loan to* bring the main .road through the township up to the sta.n dard required, ..under the Main Highways Act. There is not the slightest doubt that the time has arrived when the- iSiormanby ratepayers must seriously., consider the question o'f raising tlieir first loan. For years the Town Board has struggled along on a, hand-toHiiouth existence, and it i s.toy their, credit that the roads have been kept iti anything like rt passable condition, considering the amount of traffic that, passes 'through . the township, and that there is nearly two miles of main road to be kept in repair. . It is not a lair thing to ask the board to work under such a handicap when, hv raising a. loan, the roads could he put in first-class order, and it would not be necessary to ; strike a- higher rate than at present to provide interest and sinking fund. By constructing the roads to conform to the Main Highways Bill a £ for £ subsidy would he granted, Iso Normanby ratepayers would not he required to find a. large sum for their share of the work. According to competent authorities the load once laid down would not require toOt-liing tor four years or possibly more, and • t is only a matter of time when ratepayers would be money in pocket by sanctioning a loan. It is to be hoped there will be a good attendance at the meeting called for Monday next, December 15, when the position wili be put clearly before them. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

It has been decided by the society to revert to a due day show, arid it is to be held on February 18, 1925. The schedule has Jbeen revised iaud will soon he in the printer’s hands. Several alterations have been made this year, and many suggestions put forward by exhibitors ami others have been given effect to. • The committee meetings are being well attended and promises of support are coming in treely.
