REVISION CAUSING ANXIETY

CANADA’S COMPROMISE

MR MASSEY’S REPLY

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIG HT

(Received Dec. 13, 10 a.m.) OTTAWA, Dec. 11. Australia appears also to be considering preferential tariff revision resembling the New Zealand 75 per cent of home labour provision, and thus increasing Canada’s anxiety. Official opinion here is inclined to believe that SU l-R an .. i ncrease will considerably modify, if not cancel, the advantages of" the recently concluded- trade agreement. Meanwhile the Canadian Government has proposed a compromise at 50 per cent to Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Massey has just cabled saying that the proposal will have the Government’s most earnest consideration, but that he preferred to consult the Australian Government before giving a definite reply .—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
