LEGISLATORS AT VARIANCE. REFLECTIONS ON CHARACTER, RESENTED IN PARLIAMENT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-—COPYRIGHT. (Received Dec. 11, 10.50 a.m.) ADELAIDE, Dec. 11. Following an argument in the vestibule of the Assembly regarding a Bill which Mr Butterfield (Commissioner of Lands) is sponsoring, Mr Butterfield struck Mr Moseley, the oldest member of the House, a blow in the face, blacking an eye. The incident was discussed in the Assembly. Mr Butterfield, when .apologising, stated that serious reflections were cast upon liis character. When members began to talk of penalties, the Speaker, who was the only witness of the ,assault, said he would take the matter entirely into his own hands, and will announce his decision later. . On resumption of the Assembly the Speaker expressed severe disapproval of the conduct of the Minister, which, he said, was disorderly, and he placed on record severe censure for his unwarranted action, but accepted as a closure to the incident his expression of regret and the aoology tendered bv him.
