SCHOOL SPORTS.
COMMENCE THIS MORNING. KEEN COMPETITION. School children from every part of South Taranaki gathered at the show .grounds at Hawera this morning to take part in the South Taranaki Primary Schools Championships. The fixture, which is now being held "for the fourth year in succession, has become a most popular one, as is evidenced by the record entries .this year, which total 887, exclusive of the entries in the relay race. Thanks to the hard-working committee, the grounds were in excellent order and carefully marked out.' All arrangements were also capably attended to, every facility for handling the great number of competitors being provided for. The hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr J. E. Campbell, is deserving of special commendation for the manner in which he attended to his numerous duties. The weather was the only doubtful factor in the whole fixture, the sky bearing a very threatening aspect at 11 a.m., the time of starting. However, the conditions did not seem to | have damped the ardour of the competitors. G The Eltham Salvation Army Home Boys’ Band was present, arid provided a programme of music.
