OPERA HOUSE, TO-NIGHT. “THE PLUNDERER.” Replete with drama of the old mining era, when men thought considerably iess, of human life than of a poke full of “dust,” the story by Roy Norton called “The Plunderer,” has been adapted for the screen by William Fox, and opens at the Opera House to-night. The romance of the Croix d’Or mine and of two men who made it produce over almost insurmountable difficulties, includes the thrills of elemental battles and the dynamiting of a dam. The terrific list light between Frank Mayo and Tom Santschi recalls in its tense realism the historical record battle between Santschi and William Farnum, in “The Spoilers.” An excellent supporting programme includes mund 22 of the “Leather Pushers.”
CATHOLIC BAZAAR. CLOSES TO-MORROW EVENING. Owing to the withdrawal of three teams from the tug-of-war tournament, there wag only one 'pull last evening, Kapuni A beating Kapuni B by a good margin. The final pulLs will take place this evening between Riverdale, Taungatara and Kapuni A, which have now eight points each. These pulls wilL be keenly contested. The bazaar will close on Thursday evening. Guessing competitions and raffles will be drawn this evening and to-morrow. In order that country friends may have an opportunity of going to the bazaar it will he opened at noon to-morrow. Those who have blocks of tickets are asked to return them with money tomorrow, and friends who have promised donations of money are asked to send them, in to-morrow evening. EMPRESS PICTURES, NORMANBY. TO-NIGHT. “THE FAST EXPRESS.” ILoudini made an elephant disappear, but he’d probably be stumped with the feat of making a big freight-car disappear from the very middle of a moving railway train. William Duncan does it in “The Fast Express,” his new Universal super-plav coming to the Empress Pictures, Normanbv, to-night. The explanation of the puzzle is shown in the picture, too. It’s a. thriller to its last fade-out. Also showing, the final episode of Hurricane Hutch and a grand supporting programme.
