An interesting case is* being heard at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, the deants being the Wanganui Agricultural Association; -in’' 'Connection with the recent queen carnival, in- winch “raffles” were : conducted, the police buying tickets for a luirmoauuni, nig, and motor-car. The defence is claiming that section 43 ref the; Gaming- • -Act gives agricultural associations ! permission to dispose of exhibits' by raffle foi the promotion, of agriculture, and this carnival was part of theitr organisation, and under their control for the purpose of'wiping out the debt on the new showgrounds. It is claimed that all articles disposed' of were. exhibits in connection with the queen stalls, and these were judged and prizes awarded before any raffle tickets Were sold.
