COOK STRAIT TELEPHONE CABLE. (By Telegraph.—Special to Star). WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. The. Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department states that a special telephone cable, which will enable good communication to be obtained across Cook Strait, is being manufactured in England, but the process takes several months. The cable will then be shipped in a special tank. Once it arrives the laying will be expeditious, but it is not expected the service will be available for six months. Then by the use of relays telephonic communication will be celarlv made between the principal parts of the North and South Islands.
