BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS.

VALUE, STRESSED. BY FARMERS’ UNION. During the course of a general dismission on union matters and the cost of running these clubs members expressed very keen approval of the work of the clubs and the good influence they had on the life of the young people of the. country. The Minister of Agriculture wrote in connection with the vote of £2OOO on the Estimates that any boys and girls’ clubs expenditure would be taken from that vote. It would not be a directgrant, but the; total amount would be available should the movement extend sufficiently to require its expenditure on the lines adopted during the last two or three years. The president said there was every reason for encouraging active interest in every shape and. form. If, lib said, they could by means of the- Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs encourage the young people to remain on the land the money spent on them would Be well spent. A member added that they could not spend the money in any better way. ■ The president said that if they stiyfk to the- union and the clubs there was a good time ahead. They might perhaps see no direct benefit, but even were that so they must realise there was some part where their help would go,. In reply to -a. quetsion, he said that lads leaving school who had begun in the competitions should be allowed to continue, and then it was hoped when they grew up they would be encouraged to become members of the union. Before that, jn the interim, they could be taken in as honorary members, payiug what subscription they were able. Mr Wood (Otakehoi said their branch had inad’e a practice of taking boys in e.n their father’s membership card, and found the advantage of the decision. It was resolved that the president and Mr Deem confer in regard to the Minister’s letter and the ireply thereto.
