SCHOOLBOY’S SUICIDE.
MENTALLY DERANGED. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. TADMARUNUI, Dec. 4. At an inquest on the 17-year-old High School boy, Wilfred Steinberg, who was found dead with a shotgun and a note beside the body, evidence was given by the father that the boy had ueen studying hard, for his teacher’s ‘ ‘D!.’ certificate and the Public Service examinations. The boy failed in the first examination, and since the result was made known had been very quiet. He was not in the best of health, and had been attended by three doctors. The boy’s master at school in his evidence said deceased Was very diligent at his work, but was reserved, and did not mix with the other boys. Medical evidence w r as given that the deceased was suffering from mental 'disturbance. Deceased was at a critical time of life, and at that time certain bodily changes affected the mind. Small setbacks or upsets which would not disturb older people then appeared to younger' people in a very aggravated form. The police evidence was that 18 months ago the deceased was missing, but eventually returned home-. The coroner returned a verdict tha.t deceased shot himself while teriiporarily mentally deranged.
