BANK CRASH.
FINANCIERS IMPRISONED. TWO YEARS FOR MILLIONAIRE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT OTTAWA, Dec. 2. A further group of Canadian .financiers in high positions were sent to gaol in connection with the failure of the Home Bank. Chanris Bannard, the millionaire Montreal Corporation lawyer, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for authorising false returns to the Government during the final two years of the bank’s existence. Colonel Clarence Smith was sentenced to one year; Sydney Jones, the auditor, to four months; Ocean Smith, chief accountant, had his sentence suspended because he gave the Government every assistance during the prosecution of the directors. The losses of the depositors exceeded three million sterling.
