LABOUR PARTY’S ACTION. STATE DISPUTES COMMITTEE. ASKED TO INTERCEDE. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT Received Dec. 4, 11.55 a.m. PERTH, Dec. 4. The Council of the Australian Labour Party has decided to. take the matter of the disputes of the Seamen’s Union out of the hands of the secretary of the union, and to ask the State “Disiputes Committee to intercede w-ith a view to an amicable settlement as early as possible. POLICE PROTECTION. MELBOURNE, Dec. 3. The Premier (Mr S. M. Bruce) has telegraphed to Fremantle, requesting police protection for the port officers required for oversea 1 vessels. This action follow-ed the Prime Minister’s interview with a deputation of shipowners, w-ho asked for the Federal Government’s intervention, as the action of the Seamen’s Union at Fremantle prevented the. 'local harbour trust from piloting or berthing ships. The Federal intervention is strictly confined to Fremantle, as that is the only port in the Commonwealth which is virtually closed as a result of the seamen’s strike.
