PACIFIC CRUISE.

AMERICAN FLEET’S TRIP. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT WASHINGTON, Dec. 2. The Navy Department informed the Australian Press Association that Admiral R. E. Coontz, Gommander-in-Chief of the United States Fleet, will be in command on board the flagship Seattle. The vessels participating in the Pacific manoeuvres include the fleet destined to visit Australia and New Zealand. It is expected that Admiral S. S. Robinson will be second in command, his title being Commander-in-Chief of the battle fleet. The dirigible Shenandoah will accompany the fleet on its manoeuvres to Hawaii, although it is considered unlikely that it will accompany the fleet to Australia and New Zealand. “We will ■ show the people of the Pacific just what our navy is like and become better acquainted with them and they with us,” said the Com-mander-in-Chief. “It will result in a spirit of mutual satisfaction and friendship. Every man on board the 1908 fleet enjoyed his trip, and the hospitality of the Australians and New Zealanders was overwhelming. The nations of the world, and especially the Pacific, had no knowledge of the American fleet before 1908. Our navy after that was knoivn in every corner of the globe. I myself wish I could go back to those hot springs near Auckland. I wager they will certainly be crowded with Americans when the fleet arrives.”
