HAWERA ATHLETIC CLUB.
COMMITTEE MEETING. At a meeting of the committee of the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club, held last evening, there were present: Messrs Grant (chaff - ), Gorton, Weir, Marter, Strachan, Goodwin, Hunt,-Mc-Gregor and Foy. An apology for absence was received from Air AI. R. Jones.
The West Coast Centre’s annual report and balance-sheet was read, and a letter from the centre in connection with a special paragraph in the report' dealing with the Keddell Memorial Shield was also read. It was decided that the Hawera Club pay 12s 6d, the levy asked by the centre, to go towards the G. P. Keddell Memorial Shield. It was moved that the club commence as from December 10 to hold fortnightly evening meetings consisting of five events, to start at 6 o’clock, and that no trophies be issued, no entry fees, and no charges at gates. An amendment, that entry fees be 6d per event and winners to receive silver medals, on being put was carried. Mr Marter pointed out that Mr Hutchison had left the district, and accordingly tendered his resignation. Mr W. W. Thomas was unable to accept office on the committee. It was decided that the name of one member of the committee be removed on account of non-attendance. Two of the vacancies on the committee were then filled, the new members being Messrs J. R. McClelland and Archbold. It was decided to hold a picnic in January, the date to be arranged later. A recommendation, wag made to the Electric Light Carnival Committee to hold carnivals on January 21, February 18 and March 18, 1925. The following itinerary of events was agreed upon: 1924. —Dec. 10: 75yds, 880yds, hop, step and jump, half-mile cycle, 220yds secondary schools. 1925. —Jan. 14: 100 yards, one mile, discus, one mile cycle (boys under 16 years), high jump. Jan. 28: 220yds, three miles, halfmile walk, shot, one mile cycle. Feb. 11: 440yds, long jump, 120yds hurdles, two mile cycle, 220yds primary schools. I
]<eb. 25: 75yds, 440yds hurdles, javelin, three mile cycle, 75yds secondary schools.
March 11: lOO.vds. 880yds, hammer, one mile cycle, 100yds primary schools. March 25: 220yds, one mile, long jump, half-mile cycle, 220yds secondary schools, discus.
All events are handicap events. Silver medals to winners, and points gained in these meetings will count in the following competitions: Burdekin Cup and gold medal (running and hurdling). Barnett Glass Co.’s Cup and gold medal (cycling), Athletic Club’s trophy and gold m,edal (jumping and field events). The above are ' ‘challenge” trophies, points to count three for first, two for second, and one for third. Only members of the Hawera A.A. Club will be eligible to compete for challenge trophies. Competitors are warned that they will not he allowed to start unless thev wear their registered number on the back of the singlets. Handicaps will appear in the Star on Tuesdays. Club mem-' bers are requested to give these meetings every support and endeavour to induce new members to. take uart in them.
