THE BANK CASE.
JUDGE’S COMMENTS. MONEY WAS EXTORTED. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Dec. 3, 1.55 p.rri. LONDON, Dec. 2. In the Midland Bank case judgment was given for. the bank, with costs, which are estimated to amount to £30,000, after the arguments of counsel on the findings of the jury. Mr. Justice Darling, in giving judgment, said’ the jury’s answers were ample proof that the money stolen was extorted from this Indian gentleman, “Mr. A,” by menaces. There was no law in England that would allow him to order that “Mr. A’s” property could be given to plaintiff by any imaginable theory. He was of the opinion that tlie action ought nevej* to have been brought by a man whose mind was thoroughly debased. Lord Halsbury, in the course of argument, remarked that he saw that action -was being taken against two men, and lie did not know, why action was not being, taken against a third man.
