DEFENCE OF AMERICA.

LARGER AIR FORCE. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION -COPYRIGHT WASHINGTON, Nov. 29. General Pershing to-day made his final report as Chief-of-Staff and General Officer of the United States Armies. He recommends a greatly enlarged air force, the lack of which is now the chief weakness, of national defence; an increase of the regular army from 118,000 to 150,000, and of the national guard from 176,000 to 200,000; the strengthening of the overseas garrisons; and improved coast defence, with long range railway artillery.’ Other recommendations include the appointment of. six major-generals who served in France as permanent lieuten-ant-generals;' a larger ammuntion reserve supply, and periodic exercises of the national defence units similar to the recent Defence Day; and more citizens’ training camps. General Pershing is opposed to the establishment of a separate air force similar to the British.

Mr. J. W. Weeks (Secretary for War) delivered his annual report’ embodying practically all General Pershing’s recommendations.
