CROQUET.
The ladies a,t the two clubs in Hawera are most .enthusiastic over their game and practise very religiously. Their lawns are looking very nice indeed and will be in fine order for the Taranaki to.urnament which/ we understand, has been arranged to be held in Hawera at Christmas time.
At the park there has been erected a very neat and artistic Summer house, which serves as a nice addition to the lawns, and has proved very useful in the hot weather. It is very simple in structure, ponga stems being used for the uprights, and round the sides wirenetting filled in with leaves, retain the rustic effect. As the lawns will probably be used during the tournament, this house will be of great service. One of the members who is greatly missed at the Hawera Club and at the tournament, will be Mrs. B. C. Bennett, who is now on a tour of the worldMembers will hope that she is managing to get some play in the Old Country, and will have much to tell her fellow players, on her return, of croquet at Home.
Kaponga is quite a strong centre and many of the ladies play a good game. In order to further popularise the game in Kaponga, the committee have arranged an open “golf-croquet” tournament for Thursday, December 4. They gave a cordial invitation to all other clubs to be represented, and hope that a considerable number will avail themselves of the invitation.
