FASCIST BATONS
INSTRUCTIONS TO POLICE,
MILITIA COMMANDER. RESIGNS COMMISSION. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Nov. 29, 11.15 .am.) ROME, Nov. 28. Balbo has resigned command of the Fascist militia following a disclosure in the course of his libel action against the newspaper Voce Republieana of letters written by him on August 31, 1923, instructing the prefects to suppress vigorously any attempts at disorder by anti-facist elements, and not to interfere with the police if the latter used their batons freely against the. enemies of fascism. The Opposition papers made such an outcry on the subject of the letter that Balbo tendered his resignation to Signor Mussolini, whom he informed that the letter was sent as the result of the murder of four Fascists.
Signor Mussolini, in accepting the resignation, thanked Balbo for his devoted services to Fascism.—Reuter.
