SEVER AL LIVES LOST. 8Y CABLE -PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Nov. 27. England has been swept by a 60mile an hour gale, causing much damage and terrific seas in the Channel. The small steamer Dieppe was stranded in the darkness inside Newhaven breakwater. A tug going to her assistance foundered. Tho crew were rescued and afterwards the 65 passengers on the Dieppe were rescued. The steam drifter Fresholme was driven ashore on the precipitous coast at Port Lethen and broke up in ten minutes. Five of her crew were drowned. Three took refuge on a. waveswept rock and were beroieallv rescued bv a fisherman named Craig.' aged 72, who leaned from the rock with a line and hauled them to safety. Many small craft were in peril in the stoym and there were a number of thrilling lifeboat rescues.
