FLOODED MINE
MINERS TRAPPED
LITTLE HOPE OF RESCUE. SEVENTY MEN ESCAPE,. © BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Nov. 28. The Daily Express reports that nine miners are imprisoned in a flooded mine near Swansea, when a sudden inrush of water occurred in the Dunvant colliery late last night. This, it -is believed, was due to a storm and heavy rains. Seventy men succeeded in escaping, many wading waist deep to the shaft. One miner was brought to the surface dead. The nine remaining men are known to be in the most inaccessible part of the workings, and their retreat has been cut off. Survivors report that black damp is present. Falls from the roof followed the flood.
Communication with the colliery is most difficult, as the wires have been blown down by the storm.
