BOY SCOUTS.

WORK IN JIA WEB A

Work amongst the Hawera Boy ocouts since the reorganisation of the movement here has been showing a marked result. The boys are taking very keen interest in their work, and Scoutmaster Booth and the assistant scoutmasters are doing their best for the lads. All proficiency badges and stars earned by the .lads have been presented to them .thus keeping faith with the boys that their previous service and proficiency .badges earned last year would still count. Regular weekly parades are being held, and when ossible the boys are taken on Saturdays rof a daylight parade arid practice. On Labour Day last month the boys were taken for k field day to the country. Mr and Mrs Barr, of Scott road, very kindly gave the rise of their property. The Hawera troon, accompanied by the St. Mary’s Church troop, pad a splendid ontirig. Competitions resulted in the Hawera troop, under Scoutmaster Booth, coming first. T*'e great kindness of Mr and Mrs Barr and family in giving the hoys afternoon tea and trays loaded with scones and cakes was greatly appreciated hy all present. The Scouts cheered their hosts lustily. These outings, together with their weekly training, must- go a long way to make the lads more efficient. physically and mental] v. In keeping with the scout’s promise to be loyal to God, church parades are held whenever practicable, so that the lads may receive a good grounding in the things that count, faith in God and love for their country. The Citizens’ Committee are eager to do what they can to assist the lads, and with the assured prospect of a- hall for scout lectures, parades, etc., keener interest should soon be manifest amongst -he boys of Hawera. to become ‘‘scouters.”
