— — : — * BOARD MEETING. At the ordinary meeting on Wednesday there were present: Messrs R. S. Sage (chair)j J. B. Murdoch, T. W.J. Howell, T. C. Hobbs, J. W. J. Hard- | ing, and A. Gray, (headmaster). The monthly report of the head- ; master was. as follows The numbers on 1 the roll are practically the same as they were at last_ report. The plot at ! the house has been all planted out with the exception of lucerne. This • will be sown almost immediately. Appended is a .plan of the plot showing crops, manures, etc. The dairy and 1 storeroom have been completed, end appear to be satisfactory, although it is just possible that mbre ventilation will be required - iii the hot weather. The .concrete paths'and the road have also been completed and appear satisfactory, although the concrete, is cracking a - little in places. The contractor is at work,,on the front , fence and gate. Mr Watson has finished the divisional fence at the school, and he has made a good job. The school were held on November 5, • and the school is indebted to those gentlemen who assisted. The meeting v r as a most successful one. At the recent teachers’ D examination the following students were successful: Madge Armour, partial pass, one group; Eileen Sage,, partial., pass, one. group ; Edna Death, partial, pass, three groups. It is also pleasing, to, note that, many of o.pr ; ex T pupils . were successful ,at the same these.; the following ex-students/passed as, fpllpivs at .the recent terms examination of Victoria jCollege, yiz. : M. ; ,Death*-I)., Garnett, R, Wells,. English ; E.. V.ooght, English and education ; M.,...Gray* English, Latin . and jurisprudence; C. Hewlett, a recent student, was successful. in keeping terms at the Medical School at Dunedin. Last week the school had a visit from Miss Margaret Dyer, supervisor of home science work for the Dominion. Miss Dyer approved of the scheme op which, we are working. I append a synopsis of the scheme for your information. Mr Watson, assisted by agriculture. boys, has made a nice stack of hay from, grass cut at back of school. The action' of the chairman and Mr Hqbbs in authorising ah extra .expenditure of £5 in securing an improvement on the erection of the wall in ffont of the hostel was confirmed. The matter of securing stock to deal with the- grass round the school was left: to the Works Goihmittee. •, Mention was made of the classes which had to be held, at the old Technical School,, and it was resolved that strong, representation be, made to the department.to supply accommodation fpr these classes at the school. MANAIA D.H.S. Correspondence was received from the department that the, matter would be reviewed in view of the fact that it is proved the cost of trahsoort of children would be -less than 'the cost of providing extra accommodation at Manaia. / - The. chairman said he had impressed on the department the desirability of adhering to the expressed policy of the department.
