NEW ZEALAND TIDES.
EXTENDED OBSERVATIONS. NEW PLYMOUTH INCLUDED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. Arrangements are being made by the Marine Department with the Admiralty Hydrographic Department for an extension of the tidal predictions in New Zealand, which now cover six different ports, so that New Plymouth tides can eventually be indicated. It' has been found that the present tidal stations of reference are not suitable for working out the tides of Cook Strait, Marlborough Sounds,, and the West Coast. The marine authorities find that the most suitable standard of reference would be New Plymouth, and records of the tides at that , port have been taken for five years. From this data the necessary information can be forwarded to the Hydrographic Department in England to make calculations of the tides at New Plymouth, but it will not be possible to publish this information until the issue of the Nautical Almanac for 1927.
