WANGANUI WOOL SALE. LEVIN ANJ> CO. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report:— The first sale in Wanganui this season was held on Monday, when approximately 9000 hales were offered, our catalogue contributing 1490 bales. There was a record attendance of buyers, and the increased seating accommodation'vtas taxed to the utmost, buyers being present from every quarter of the wool consuming centres." The offering at this sale was not quite as large as at the November sale last year, this being largely due to the unsettled weather in October and . early this month. The clip this season, is in excellent condition, and our offering was. of a very representative character. Buyers were very keen from the start, and the sale went with a, good swing, bidding being animated and well spread, and we sold all of our catalogue under the hammer. The recent advance in Wellington and Napier was well maintained. Coarser orossbreds were in sellers’ favour. There were, not many lines of American standard, but those offering were taken by America after good comnetition. The hulk of the offering, however, was taken by Bradford and the Continent, Bradford, as usual taking the lion’s share. The following are tne principal movements of the market as compared with last sale:- — Halfbreds, 2d to 4d advance ; fine crossbred, 46/48, 4d to sid advance; medium crossbred, 44/46,* 5d to 6d advance ; coarse crossbred, 40/44, 5d to 6d advance; low crossbred, 36/40, 5d to 65d advance; bellies and pieces, 4d to 6d advance; locks, 4d advance. JOHNSTON AND CO., LTD.

Messrs Johnston and Co., Ltd., Wanganui, report:—-The first wool, sale of the 1924-26 season was held on Monday night, when a total catalogue of 10,400 hales was submitted to a, full bench of buyers, representing all sections of the trade from America, Bradford, France, Germany, Italy, local mills and scourers. The offering on the whole was well grown, good length, staple and of good average condition. Year by year the wool from the surrounding districts is showing a marked improvement as regards quality and general get-up of the clips. We submitted .a catalogue of 869 bales Lilly representative of the Taranaki, Wanganui, Rangitikei and Feilding districts. Theire is no doubt that the support accorded the local sales by growers ha,s caused the ruling market prices for crossbred wools to be fixed in New Zealand and not in London, as in the past. Realisations must be said to be very satisfactory to growers. The lowest price we quote tor crossbred fleece wools was 203 d for a -line of Lincoln cotts, up to 27id for a line of CJcnn Kaiwaka Romney hoggets. Higher prices were, of course, paid for Southdown. We report the market) if anything, easier for fine crossbred, and firmer lor the coarser descriptions on late aites. Some of our realisations are:—
