Alderman Walker was examined at length regarding the drawing of a number of cheques and pacing away considerable sums of money. He answered questions repeatedly by saying he could not remember, lie stated that his books regarding the transactions had been inadvertently burned by his wife when destroying rubbish. SAILLESS SHIPS. LONDON, Nov. 24. Walter Scotter, coal exporter, of Hull, and liis brother, claim all patent rights in Britain of sailless ships on the German rotormast system, declaring that they obtained the British rights for an identical system in 1917. They offered their patent to the British Government during the war, but it was not accepted. SOCIALIST HONORED. PARIS, Nov. 24, The bodv of Jean Jaures, the Socialist leader, who was assassinated in 1914, was to-day reburied in the Pantheon. The coffin was borne by miners in their working clothes, and lodged in the Pantheon. Huge crowds were present, and the Premier (M. Herriot) delivered a moving speech. There was an extraordinary demonstration of affection and regard on the part of the people. As seventy bluebloused miners dragged the bier, at least 100,000, followed in the procession. which was headed by Admiral Jaures. the dead man’s brother. Perhaps half a million lined the streets. There were repeated cries of ‘‘Down with war!” as the procession moved towards the Pantheon. SUBMERGED MINE. Received Nov. 25, 9.55 a.m. PARIS, Nov. 24. Following the explosion on the trawler (cabled on the 23rd) the navy Department ordered a systematic dragging for mines between Dunkirk and Gravelines. (A trawler came across a submerged mine, and while endeavouring to haul it in it exploded, killing ten men).
