BOWLING.
PARK CLUB. A very interesting game for the buttons was played on Saturday afternoon, the challengers (Sayers, Hamilton, Black and Liinkhorn) defeating the holders (Henderson, St. George, W. Grant and McGregor) by 27 to 25 points. The game was characterised by close play throughout,, the 23rd head showing 25 all. The challengers secured one each on the last two heads. HAWERA CLUB COMPETITIONS. The A Buttons match was played on Saturday afternoon, when the challengers put up a meritorious • fight against the holders. At one stage of the game the challengers held an advantage, and were leading by a small margin. The 18th head saw the scores on an even balance, 16 all. However, the majority of the final heads went in favour of the holders, who registered their fifteenth consecutive win by 25 to 20. The challenging rink was T. Tait, Dillon, Foy, O’Gorman 20 ; holders, Maslin, Poole, Adamson, Hulbert 25.
I‘i the B Buttons competition on tho same afternoon the holders were beaten by six points after a very good game. The challengers were Haggett, Hobbs, Clarke, Squire 26; holders, Joll, Watts, Wills, Burdekin 20. MANAIA v. PIHAMA. This match was played ontheManaia green on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Manaia by 21 points. Details (Manaia mentioned first): Davis, Bennett, McDonald, Andrews 24; Koru, Cowan, D. Harrop, Mason 22. Paul, Franklin, Poynter, Ward 28; Harrop, Sagar, Nielson, Julian 15. Howard, Belliman, Hotter, A. H. Christie 27; Campbell, Glengarry, Pohe, Lambie 21. Totals: Manaia 79, Pihama 58. . Mr Jas. . Hickey welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Manaia Club, and hoped that they would thoroughly enjoy the afternoon’s play. At the conclusion of the match* Mr F. Julian, on behalf of the Pihama team, heartily thanked the Manaia team for the splendid afternoon’s enjoyment; also the ladies for the very nice afternoon tea, which they all appreciated. He called for three cheers for the Manaia Club and three cheers for the ladies. PAIRS MATCH. A further match for pairs buttons was played at Manaia on Saturday, and the holders managed to win by a narrow margin of two points—Badley and Innes 22; Putt and Toroa (challengers) 20.
