AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

SOUTH TARANAKI EXECUTIVE.. At a meeting held last night; there were present Messrs W. M. Thomson (chair), S. C. Tonks, J. McGhie, -W. O’Callaghan and the secretary (W. G. Walkley). Apologies were received from Messrs Cox, Duffill and O’Dea. The secretary reported that the county councils had agreed to erect direction posts, to be supplied- by the association and to be erected at points to be arranged mutually.

The Automobile Association of New Plymouth wrote suggesting amalgamation, and proposing a meeting of delegates to consider the question.—lt was resolved to reply that the question would be put before the southern branches, and suggesting a meeting for Tuesday next. Spot lights.—A request was received from the Hawera Borough Council for an opinion on this subject. After some discussion it was decided to reply that the association did not consider them desirable in the borough, but that they would not advise debarring them on the back country roads. Parking Places. —It was resolved to write to the borough suggesting arrangements in this connection. Safety First.—The question was left for consideration by the Central Council, but it was considered advisable to bring the matter of the safety of chridreu on the roads to the notice of the teachers. Mutual Insurance.—The Masterton Association wrote giving particulars of their scheme. It was resolved to write thanking them, and to refer the matter to the central body. The secretary reported that several requests had been received by him for information in regard to accredited hotels in various places and also the state of roads in outside districts. Other suggestions such as a combined motor run, mirrors on lorries, etc., were brought up for consideration by the meeting of delegates. This was all the business, and the meeting adjourned.
