PARK TENNIS CLUB.

PAVILION SCHEME. Realising the .urgent need of a building which would provide that equipment essential to every club, the committee of the Park Club have for some time been considering a scheme by which they could erect a pavilion on the grounds at the Park, where are their courts.

Recently, as is well known, they sent a deputation to the Borough Council, and received . a most cordial hearing in answer to their request for permission to erect a pavilion. For years the committee have realised the need of such a building, but apparently from the lack of that enthusiasm which is so essential to the successful working and progress of the club the matter lias been deferred .from year to year. It may be they felt their numbers were not large enough to justify making the effort. This year, however, the membership lias increased) to 130, and new members are still enrolling and the courts are crowded nearly every day. Players who had retired from the game have rejoined, and are showing all their old .enthusiasm for practice. The committee feel, therefore, that the time has arrived when, iii the interests of health and from every point of view, they must have the pam]ion. They are therefore conferring with a view to evolving a workable scheme, and propose, next week to hold a general meeting of members and all interested. Several of the councillors are evincing a. keen interest in the question, and have promised to attend the meeting and give the club the benefit of their experience and advice, a fact which is much appreciated by the members generally. The movement is one that is for the benefit of the town generally and for tennis in particular, and the building of the pavilion will he a distinct asset to the tewa.
