DANNEVIRKE, Nov n At the Magistrate’s Court Thomas Charles TVilhams, an inmate of the Park Island Old Men’s Home, NW>reir, pleaded guilty and Avas committed for sentence on a charge of obtaining £2O from Emily Butler, licensee of the Mangatina Hotel by means of a valueless- cheque. The accused, who is 80_ years of age, drove ur> to an hoteL m Napier in a- taxi and borrowed LI froin the licensee to pay the driver and subsequently represented himself as an Australian cattle buyer who was in the Dominion looking for a farm for' his son. Later he exhibited a boo-us cheque for £SOOO drawn on an Australian bank, and on the strength <r this obtained the £2O. In the end he disappeared. He was subsequently arrested at New Plymouth. He attributed his trouble to drink.
