GEMS OF MYSTERY.
Hatton Garden, London, has its mysteries and its romances.
The chief mystery at a recent sale was the nature of a couple of curious stones which had been offered for disposal to the noted dealer in precious stones, Mr Gordon Nathan.
“I have been thirty years dealing with all kinds of precious and semiprecious stones,” said Mr. Nathan to an interviewer, “but never before have I seen anything like these. They have no name yet. They are found in a fish’s head, and always in pairs, and were brought to me by some prospectors from Peru.”
The stones are irregular in shape, of a pearly white colour, and about threequarters of an inch long.
