SHOCK FOR AMERICANS.
“GREAT WASTERS OF TIME.” Sir Max Muspratt, who attended the accent meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in Toronto, arrived in Ottawa recently, after a visit to the United States. He was accompanied by Sir Charles Parsons, ' Sir Max visited the steam power installations of the Ford -Works in Detroit, Where he secured new ideas for the development of power in England. Sir Max Muspratt declared that Americans appeared to him to be great wasters of time, and said: “Our shorter hours and intensive work get there quite as much as American methods. I have no fear pf the displacement' of Britain in neutral markets, at aiiy rate as far as the United States are organised at present, both industrially and politically.” > ’ He further stated that apart from particular specialisation, such as business, professional, and other activities, Americans show great lack of individualism, and their outlook is narrow and restricted on general questions.
