MANAIA.
(Freni Our Own Correspondent). The funeral of the late Josephine Margaret Sherlock took place on Tuesday afternoon at Manaia, and the popularity of the little deceased, whose age was twelve years, was well mam fested by the very large cortege. Frfends were present from all parts of the district, and close on 40 motor-cars were in the funeral cortege. The funeral left her parents’ residence at 1.30 p.m., arriving at the Catholic Church, Manaia, at 2 p.m., the Rev. father O’Dwyer officiating at the service in the church, where, a large number of friends of the parents were present to show their deepest sympathy to Mr and Mrs Sherlock in their very sad loss, also: to show their last respect to little Josephine Margaret. After the service in the church, the body was taken to the Manaia Cemetery. The Rev. Father O’Dwyer also, afficiated at the grave. The following friends and sympathisers sept wreaths: —Mr and Mrs H. Whalen, Myrtle Whalen, Whalen Bros., Mr and Mrs D. Austin, Mr. and Mrs Barnes, Mr and Mrs Wheeler, Rose and Idy Marton, Mr and Mrs Renwick, Mr and Mrs J. Scott, Mr and Mrs B. Martin, Mr and Mrs C. Herdman, Mr and Mrs E- Long, Mr and Mrs Wishart, Mr and Mrs Brock, Mr and Mrs J. A. Cosgrove, Mr and Mrs Clark, Mr and Mrs W. Duggan, Mr and Mrs Fawcett, Mr and Mrs G. Davis, Public Works staff, Manaia Cricket Club, Mr S. Savage, Mr and Mrs A. Stephenson, Mr and Mrs Toke, Mr and Mrs O’Dowd and Misses O’Dowd, Mr and .Mrs Murphy and family. Glass wreaths—Mr and Mrs G. Keeley, Mr and Mrs Sullivan, Public Works lift party, ballast pit party, friends and fellow workers, Messrs Moner and Gorman, Mr C. Denman. The following were the pall-bearers: Messrs C. Denman, C. Cronin, G. Sullivan, junr., R. McCurdy. The deepest sympathy is extended to Mr and Mrs Sherlock and family in their sad loss. The final euchr© party and dance held in the Manaia Town Hall on Monday night was fairly well attended. The prize-winners for the evening were Miss White (ladies), and Mr Ruru Sam (gents). The points prizes for the season were won by Mrs J. A. G. Cosgrove (ladies), with 95 games, Miss E. McPhiUips being second with 84. Mr C. Willeocks won the gents prize, and Mr W. Duggan was second. Guessing weight of wedding cake was won by Mr T. Butler. A good supper wa§ provided, also- a good floor for dancing, and first-class mUsic was supplied by Mrs M. Long and extras by Mr and Mrs Cosgrove, Miss C. Vine, and Mr M. Marvin.
