A deputation was received from the Eltham Swimming Club, consisting ot Messrs Casey, Wilson, McQuin and PowelL (secretary) regarding arrangements between the club and the School Committee, laid clown by the previous meeting of the School Committee. The deputation stated that the conditions were not acceptable to them, as they could not see how the Swimming Chib could make a financial success on the conditions set out.
The chairman, in reply to the deputation, said that the School Committee had to consider that the baths were there for the school children fvrst, and had always managed in previous years to provide certain hours for the general public. This involved the appointment of a caretaker, and last year the committee had run three carnivals and had sold a good number of season tickets, and had only made a profit of £3. Other years a loss had occurred. The School Committee were out to protect the school funds from any loss that might, occur by keeping the baths open to the general public. Mr Casey, for the Swimming Club, said that the greatest difficulty was the condition that allowed the School Committee to sell season tickets at os, whereas the club would have to sell them at 7s 6d. He suggested that a uniform charge l>e adopted. The chairman reported that the committee would give further consideration to the proposals mentioned, and would communicate its decision to the club as early as possible.
