SUNDAY DEPUTATION.
CENSURE BY THE CHURCHES
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION,
CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 17. Ihe Council of Christian Congregations to-night passed the following resolution: “This council has noted with great regret that those responsible for the tour and the Christchurch arrangements of the Railway Commissioners should so far have disregarded the generally recognised sanctity of the Lord’s Day as to have chosen the morning of that day as the time for receiving a deputation from the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce, dealing with the railway business of the city and its surroundings. “Without wishing to indicate how the Lord’s Day should be observed,’’ adds the resolution, “this council cannot refrain from expressing its disapproval of this transaction of public business at a time when private business is by law prohibited.” The council also adopted a motion censuring the action of the Government in sanctioning increased racing permits. .
