BARMAID SHOT DEAD

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Nov. 17. ‘ Alfred William Minnes was committed for trial on a charge of murdering Winifred Foley, a barmaid, aged. 21, on September 21. Evidence was given that the couple were keeping company until deceased discovered/ that Minnes was a married man. She then sought police intervention to prevent him from pestering her. On the morning of the tragedy they quarrelled over the return of the engagement ring which Minnes gave her. Subsequently the quarrel was renewed in the street, and - the shooting followed.

The police gave evidence that Minnes said he shot Miss Foley because she tantalised him, and he was not going to let anyone else have her.
