Thf first annual general meeting of the Kaponga Bowling Club was held in the Kaponga Town Hall last evenlnS-. Mr. A. _E. Anderson (retiring president) occupied the chair. PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS. Referring to the club’s activities' to date, the president said that a considerable sum of money had been spent m laying dotyn the green, but there was still much to do; entailing further expenditure. The green had been inspected recently by several experienced bowlers, who had expressed favourable opinions concerning its condition considering tire comparatvely short time which had elapsed since tine grass wa,s sown. The club had, however, been advised to have the green top-dressed as early as possible, and the speaker considered it advisable to have this done. A small amount of pebble which though not serious was not desirable, could be detected in the top-dressing previously used. Td guard agaiist this it was proposed to have all soil used in future carefully sieved before allowing it to be put on the green. Inquiries were King made with the view of obtaining suitable soil to which the required manure would be added, and it was hoped that the work would be put iii band aiid the seed sown, in time to have the green ready for play by the beginning of the New Year, when it wais proposed that the official opening would take place. From the experience of other dubs, however, the greeii could not lie expected yto be in its best condition iii less than four years. The speaker, with Mr. C. S. Hill, had been appointed as the green committee, and together with other members had given attention to one rink on which a few practice -games had already bfeeli played. Provision had been made for the erection of the pavilion. The cohtriaotor had not yet commenced the work, but expected to have it completed in time for the official opening. At a subsequent stage of the. mteeting the president and Messrs Hill .and Tait were appointed to make the iieceseary provision, for a supply of soil and as soon as this was available to hjxve the work of top-dressing commenced. FINANCE. -The hon. Secretary (Mr J. Hessell) read the balance-sheet, Showing the receipts from donations as £3l 13s 6d and the expenditure as £162 6s lOd, comprising the following payments: Contractor, £lO4 8s lOd; material supplied, £l9 l2s 3d; top-dressing, £ls 14s 6d; repairs and maintenance, £7 8s; wages, £7 5s 3d; office expenses, £1 Is 3d; edvertising, £3 4s; interest, £3 12s 9d. The overdraft was therefore £l3O 13s 4d.

The secretary further explained that to meet the liability under, the joint and several account with the bank a a sinking fund account was being opened, to which all donations and in future a proportion of each year’s subscriptions, would, be credited/ The balance-sheet was adopted subject to audit. As a means of distributing as largely as possible members’ liability under the joint aiid several account, the secretary moved that a club entrance fee of £2 2s be instituted, hew members to have the option, to be exercised within one month, of either paying the fee of subscribing to the joint and several account; further, that all entrance fees received be paid into the sinking fund account. The motion was adopted after a short discussion.

It was decided that the subscription fee for the first year he £3 3s, reducible to £2 2s if paid before December 31, 1924, in the case of existing members, of within one month of joining in the case of new members. ELECTION OF OFFICERS,

The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr O. J. Hawken, M.P.; president, Mr A. E. Anderson; vice-presidents, Messrs C. S. Hill and A. V. Tait; honorary secretary, Mr J. Heesell; treasurer, Mr H.. H,. Henderson; executive committee, Messrs G. Smith, D. P. F. Malone, W. Hislop and J. Davison; A vote of thanks was recorded in appreciation of the services rendered by the hoti. Secretary, the president remarking that the club was exceedingly fortunate in retaining Mr Hessell in the office. GENERAL. Dr. M. M. Hocken was elected as a club member.
