(Received Nov. 14, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 14. 1 he. transport, group of unions held a, meeting to discuss closer combination between transport unions and the Watersiders’ Federation in support of the overtime strike. It was decided to support the federation in its fight to abolish the shipping free labour bureau, also to support the Seamen’s and Stewards’ Unions in their fight against the Commonwealth Line. The meeting also condemned the . Fuller Government for supporting" foreign shipowners through the agency of the free labour bureau to the detriment of Australia and Australian workers, and for scheming through the agencies and certain members of the police force to do certain things calculated to irritate peaceful' members of the federation to provoke a breach of peace on the waterfront, thereby providing means for t . lie . .Government to avoid its responsibilities to the wheat growers and farmers of the country. Mr .Chapman, secretary of the Australian Railwaymen’s Union, said that when the transport unions had smashed the free labour bureau on the waterfront the railwaymen would have a similar duty to perform. He urged the transport unions’ group to go in for job control.

UNION SECRETARY CHARGED,

PERTH, Nov. 14. • The dispute which arose regarding the steamer Volumnia was advanced a step further when Thomas Houghton, secretary of the Fremantle branch of the Federated Seamen’s Union, was charged with having attempted to persuade twenty-three seamen on the vessel to neglect their duty. The case occupied the whole day, and was unfinished when the Court rose,.
