EXPLOSION OF GELIGNITE.
MAN SEVERELY INJURED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Nov. 13. James Hawkes, aged 82, was blasting stone with gelignite in the City Council’s quanrv at Mount Eden, when he had his face badly injured. He had his left-hand blown' off and lost the sight of one eye by a premature explosion. He underwent an operation at the hospital. His condition is critical.
