THREAT TO A JUDGE.

MAN KEPT IN PRISON

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT

. S\"DNEY, Nov. 11. There was a sensation in the Divorce Court when Mr Justice Owen stated that a respondent named Gibbons, then before the court, had threatened to shoot him and throw vitro! over the judge’s daughter. Mr Justice Owen added that the threats did not affect him in the slightest. Even if Gibbons did succeed in his amiable intention, he would still have to obey the order of the court tW payment of alimony to his wife. Gibbons admitted that he made the threat, but did not intend to carry it out. His reason for uttering the threat was that two detectives dragged him out of bed in the middle of the night and told him he would be kicked to pieces if he did not attend the court.

Evidence showed that the respondent was in receipt of a large weekly allowance from his father which he spent on clothing and at the races. The judge held that some of it should have been used to meet the court’s order and discharging some of his obligations to his wife.

The judge ordered Gibbons to be returned to custody to the Long Bay prison.
