TRAGIC COINCIDENCE.
INQUEST WITNESS KILLED
DANGERS OF REDFERN YARD
. ' SYDNEY, Oct. 23. A tragic coincidence w r as disclosed at the City Coroner’s Court to-day. A ganger who was killed near Redfern station, yesterday was to have given evidence to-day at an inquiry into the death of a fettler which occurred at the same snot on October 8. ' Statements made by the representatives of the Australian Railway Union at the conclusion of the inquiry prompted the coroner to remark:
“I am not making any recommendation, but the Railway Commissioners, like" all other employers, have a duty to protect their men from danger. It is not sufficient to afford them facilities for protecting themselves. It is the tendency of every man on the job to forget liimself, and the danger thjft is likely to occur. The better the workman the more likely he is to forget. The best workmen do not always think more of themselves or their skins than their work.
“I suggest that the evidence to-day is. of. such a character that the .commissioners ought to give the matter the gravest consideration.”
