NO BOUNTY.

FOR APPLE GROWERS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Nov. 8, 1.50 p.m.) v MELBOURNE, Nov. 8. No bounty is likely to be granted by the Federal Ministry this year to apple growers. Senator Wilson, who is in charge of the assistance to marketing, has received a cable from the High Commissioner (Sir Jas. Cook) stating that between forty and fifty thousand eases of apples were brought on the open market in London this year for sale at Wembley at an average cost of 16s lOd per case. Allowing a liberal estimate of 8s lOd per case as the cost of marketing, this left the growers a return of 8s a case at the tree. The growers recently informed Mr Wilson that the industry would be profitable if they were assured of a return of 4s a case at. the tree. It is estimated that, if Wembley reopens next, year, a hundred thousand cases could be sold. :
