SHIFTING A HOUSE.

TOWED ACROSS RIVER, LAUNCHMAN NEARLY DROWNED. DARGAYILLE, Nov. 6. Recently Mr Crooks, farmer, of Horehore, purchased a six-roomed dwellinghouse in Dargaville for removal across the Wairoa River to his farm, and on Monday night put it on two barges and towed it across by launch. At yesterday morning’s low tide an attempt was made to put the barges on the. river bank. One barge tipped and the house slipped into the river where there was fairly deep water. The building hit the launch, nearly swamping the vessel, and the launchman, Mr Alex Smith, had a narrow escape from drowning. At high tide last night the house was pulled up the bank.
