RUNAWAY TRAM.
WRECKS A MOTOR CAR. SEVERAL PEOPLE INJURED. SENSATIONAL INCIDENT. (by telegraph—press association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 7. A runaway accident of a sensational nature occurred, in the city to-night, when a car got out of control on the Wellesley Street East hill and ran athigh speed down the hill. At: Queen 'Street intersection the tram left the rails and struck a. motor car, which it wrecked. It finally ended its run near the site of the new civic square. The car apparently stopped on Wellesley Street to pick up passengers, when a ear following ran into it, and thus put it out of control. It accordingly went off down hill at high speed. It was extensively damaged when : it fetched up on the opposite hill. Two girls named Robinson. Vho were in the tram, jumped off, sustaining cuts and abrasions, one of them being detained in hospital. Tlie driver of the motor car was Mr. A. A. Donald, .who is suffering from face abrasions and shock. Mrs: Donald was also in the motor, and is suffering from a broken left collarbone, injuries to the right hip, and shock. The third occupant of the motor car was Mrs. Morley, who sustained a broken left collarbone and broken, ribs, also injuries to her shoulder. Eyewitnesses describe' how the tram careered down the hill with the motorman ringing the gong. The driver of the motor-car was unaware of the'runaway, and Could do nothing to get out of the way as the car was upon him so suddenly. The hospital reports that the condition of all the injured is satisfactory.
