Mr. John Angus Dunning, of the Auckland University, has been selected as Rhodes Scholar.

Mr. Alf War brick, the well-known guide, has been ailing for some time, and is now •in the King George V. Hospital at Rotorua. He is progressing slowly.

Mr. James David Anderson, a'well known resident of Wellington, died on Wednesday last at the age of 76 years. k,

The death of Mrs Wragge, widow of the late Mr Clement Wragge, occurred at Birkenhead, Auckland, on Sunday. The deceased lady, like her husband, was an expert meteorologist.

Cr R. B. Douglas, a member of the Hawera County Council, who has been laid, aside by illness for some time, was able to be present at the county meeting to-day. The acting-chairman (Cr E. A. Washer) welcomed Mr Douglas, and expressed pleasure that he had recovered from hjs illness.

After about eight months’ absence inuring Britain and the European Continent, Mr and Mrs C. A. Wilkinson will return to their home in Eltliam towards the end of next week. They arrive in Wellington by the Ulimaroa on Wednesday. *

Fenwick, medical superintendent at the Christchurch Hospital, returned to Christchurch on Tuesday from England, where he has been studying deep therapy and radium treatment at the Cancer Research Laboratory of the Middlesex Hospital. He brought with him the apparatus which will be used in connection with the treatment of patients with radium.

The death of Mr W. L. Luscombe, a well-known resident of New Plymouth, occurred yesterday at his residence., Barrett street. Mr Luscombe has lived in retirement in New Plymouth for many years, being a prominent figure on the bowling greens. The late Mr Luseombewas well known in South Taranaki, where, beside a number of relatives, he had a host of friends. Bowlers especially in Gouth Taranaki will miss a true-hearted sport when they visit New Plymouth. P'he, death is reported in Melbourne or Mrs R. Rede, known on tlie stage as Miss Lizzie Laurence. Mrs Rede was seventy-one years of age, and was formerly a member of the Alfred Dampier Company, which visited New Zealand forty years ago, under engagement to the Wilmot Dramatic Company, of which Mr R. Love was agent, lhe late Mrs Rede was married fiftytwo years ago to Mr Rede, an old-time actor, who survives her.,

News has been received in Dunedin bv cable from London of the death of Mr James "Witt, who had been connected with Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd., for many years past. While in Dunedin, Mr Witt was manager of the tancy goods department. About 20 years ago he left for London to take up the work of buyer for that section. His health has been failing for a few months past. The deceased was a brother of Mr William Witt, of the Wellington firm of Wright, Dixon and Witt.
