■ > SEASON’S PLAY COMMENCED.

Play for the 1 f)'24-2o season, under the auspices of. the Kaponga Tennis Club, commenced on, Saturday afternoon, when a good number of members and also visitors from neighbouring dubs were present on the courts. Fine weather prevailed, though a stiff breeze handicapped accuracy in play The club president (Mr. J. Hesseli) extended a cordial welcome to the visitors, and in an appropriate speech expressed the hope that the season would afford ample opportunities for the full enjoyment of the game On his request Mrs. C. S. Hill, the leading lady player, drove the first ball, after which the president formally declared the conrts open for the season’s play. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. J. Hessell, in appreciation of whose hospitality a vote of thanks, on the motion of the deputv captain. Mr. G. L. Stedman, was carried by acclamation. For the opening olay a match wa« [ arranged between the president’s and captain’s teams, resulting in victory to the latter by six sets. to ° n e. After the match a number of other giames concluded' an enjoyable afternoon’s .play. The match scores were as follows (the deputy captain's players being mentioned first): Mixed Doubles. —-Miss M.
