NOT A GERMAN.
FORTUNE TO BE RETURNED. COLOMBO, Oct. 13. From twelve to thirteen millions of rupees (£1,200,000 or £1,300,000 at par), will have to he returned to Siegmund Freudenhurg, who was a partner in a leading house of German merchants in'Ceylon before the war. Freudenhurg, considered to he a German national, was interned with his brothersjn the early days of the war. Later lie was transferred to Australia as a prisoner. The Secretary of State now cables that Freudenhurg has proved thUt he was a British national at the date of signing the Treaty of Versailles for the purposes of the treaty. Presumably this is because he was born in Ceylon, t.nough, according to German law as framed before the war, he was a German subject.
