ALLEGED CORRUPTION.
SYDNEY ALDERMAN INVOLVED. BY CABLE—PRES 3 ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Nov. 3. .The commission inquiring into the allegation made by a citizen named Cropley lengthily detailed the alleged overtimes on behalf of certain aidermen regarding the payment of £IOOO. Cross-examined. Cropley said he considered the suggestion an insult, and flatly refused to listen to them. He denied ever telling anybody there was £SOO in it for them. The evidence disclosed that Cropley had many interviews with the Lord Mayor, other Town Hall officials and aldermen regarding the renewal of his leases. Cropley recently alleged that he had been approached by two persons, who informed him that the Citv Council would pay him the sum of £14,000 as compensation for the snnender of certain leases of city buildings held by him if he would pay £IOOO. Cropley alleged he was informed that the latter sum would be passed on to certain indiHe further alleged he was told that £ooo would not be accepted, as there were too many among whom the money, if it were paid, was to be distributed. He also asserted that he was notified that if he (lid not pay £IOOO he would be granted £12,000 for compensation, which he declined to accept.
