BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Nov. 3. in accordance with the decision reached at Saturday’s meeting, no members of the Waterside Workers’ Federation commenced work at the wharves before 8 o’clock this morning, r e\v vessels, however, are so far affected by this overtime strike. On all overseas boats other than the Commonwealth' ~ane, the -Canadian Mercantile Marine and the Wiltshire and Japanese Lines, work went on as usual, the men working right through from their previous shifts. The Newcastle wliarfies are adopting tactics similar to those of the Svdnev men. • . . MELBOURNE, Nov. 3. A iresh development has cropped up in connection with the waterfront trouble. Tlie committee of tlie management of the Waterside Workers’ Federation, which is the governing council *T r iiustralia, resolved to suspend the Melbourne branches for deciding at Saturday’s meeting not to participate in the overtime strike. The secretary of the federation telegraphed to the blanches- throughout the Commonwealth, informing them that the policy adopted at the recent Sydney conference must be strictly adhered to. It w as stated that the Melbourne branches were the oniy ones . that had ignored the Federal body out of the total of sixty-two. '.

At Hobart the waterside Avotkers enforced the overtime strike, but, like {Sydney, only certain lines were affected. On the other vessels the men continued to work through shifts.

Although the companies intended to Avork several steamers during the night-, the sailing programmes will be adhered to. A meeting of representatives of the transport group unions adopted a resolution condemning the action of the Melbourne Avatefsiders in refusing to obey the decision of the Avaterside~conference. It u 7 as further resolved to notify the transport workers in Melbourne that all work after 5 o’clock is against the principle of unionism. The meeting also congratulated the eommittee of management in /suspending the Melbourne branches.
