While the Remuera was hove to outside the Heads waiting for the weather to moderate she shipped a big sea which knocked a seaman, Thos. Jones, aged 66, down and inflicted serious, injuries. He dislocated his shoulder and sustained broken ribs and bruises to liis head. Merrifield, one of the engineers, got a severe scalp wound from the same wave.
