IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT.

POPE LEO’S BODY REMOVED. GRAVE OF HIS CHOICE. ROME, Oct. 26. The body of Pope Leo the Thirteenth was transferred last night, privately, from St. • Peter’s to the Lateran Basilica, chosen by him as his last resting place. , The ceremony was carried out in mysterious silence, and in the profound darkness of night. The Sarcophagus was carried on a funeral car, lighted by four torches, through the darkest streets of the city. Leo the Thirteenth was elected Pope on February 20, 1878, and died on July 20, 1903, at the age of 93. His body was then temporarily buried in St: Peter’s.
